Legal Structure, Taxation, and Benefits

General structure:
Federation of states, each with its own laws and regulations

Employment Law:
Flexible, but with strict anti-discrimination legislation and specific laws by state and at the federal level

Fiscal Regime:
Taxes are levied at the federal, state, and local levels


Tax Treaties:
Fiscal agreements with most countries including all EU Member States


Investment Assistance:
No fiscal moratorium for new companies


Tax Rates:
Individuals and Corporations are subject to federal taxes and state , city taxes when applicable.

Mandatory Benefits:
Social security and Medicare, Workers' Compensation as well as unemployment are paid for by the employer.
The employee contributes to Social Security and Medicare.


Non-mandatory Benefits:
Medical insurance, pension, life insurance, and temporary leave
(cost to the employer is about 15 to 25% of gross salary)


Accounting:
No mandatory accounting plans
FASB and GAAP standards apply
Foreign standards are not recognized


Audit:
Mandatory for public companies only.
